Arrival

When the last rays
Touch the sheer cliffs
And the valley descends
Into shadowy peace,
The cool air rests
On silver boughs,
The hum
of nature’s mercurial criers subsides.

Rising up on each side
Of a fertile plain,
The guardians of time keep watch
And I will kiss you,
In the blue sea,
Warm Aegean waters engulfing us,
And heaven here on earth
Will have been reached.
