Awakening

O sleep, you elude a needful body
And I arise with three bells ringing
Quietly trying to find a snack
I raise my other half;
We sit, contemplating the day ahead
And go back to bed.
Tossing, turning, four bells now,
The first rooster crows.
Eyelids drooping,
the welcome delirium returns,
dancing patterns of light tease;
And I fall asleep again,
One bell rings on the half hour,
And I hazily wonder
What time it is.
