Sea Breeze

Foothills slope gently away
From the port town of Gytheion;
Sailboats bob at their moorings,
Sun glinting off the whitecaps

Rippling in from the depths,
Across wrinkled sand,
Hot spots await adventerous toes...
Chin up, the heat touches my face

Standing waist deep,
Fingers outstretched,
Dabbing the surface,
My gaze wanders upwards

A simple castle wall
Rises from ancient olive groves,
Stones carefully selected
From fields tended for centuries

A Mani landmark,
The notched parapets
Reminiscent of grandeur ~
Simple, strong, stalwart.
